Community Empowerment Program

Caregiver & family capacity building. WeCare's community-facing flagship initiative recognises that a child's earliest development happens long before they enter any classroom β€” in the home, in the arms of their caregivers, and within the community that surrounds them.

The Challenge

Why this program exists

A child's earliest development happens long before they enter any classroom β€” in the home, in the arms of their caregivers, and within the community that surrounds them.

Through the Community Empowerment Program, WeCare equips parents, guardians, and community members with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to nurture healthy, safe, and stimulated children from birth.

What We Do

Program Activities

  • Parent Clinics β€” regular, structured group sessions held in communities where trained facilitators guide parents and caregivers through key early childhood development topics. Sessions are interactive, practical, and grounded in local contexts, covering child health milestones, nutrition, responsive play, and child safety.
  • Digital Health Promotions β€” targeted early childhood education content delivered through WhatsApp, social media platforms, and community digital channels. Short videos, infographics, and audio messages are shared with caregiver groups to reinforce clinic learning and reach families beyond physical session attendance.
  • Radio Outreach & Community Broadcasting β€” broadcast programs reaching rural and peri-urban communities where in-person access is limited. Radio segments cover key caregiver topics in accessible local languages, featuring expert voices and real community stories to build trust and promote behaviour change.
  • Child Health & Nutrition Education β€” dedicated sessions and materials covering age-appropriate feeding practices, immunisation schedules, growth monitoring, illness prevention, and hygiene. Caregivers are trained to identify early warning signs and connect with local health services when needed.
  • Safety & Child Protection Training β€” awareness and skills-building for caregivers and community leaders on child protection principles, including safe home environments, identifying signs of abuse, and appropriate reporting pathways. This activity reinforces a community-level culture of care and accountability.
  • Responsive Caregiving Workshops β€” practical workshops teaching caregivers the fundamentals of sensitive and responsive caregiving, including emotional attunement, play-based interaction, communication, and the role of routines in building secure child attachment and healthy development.
  • Home-Based Early Learning Support β€” support for caregivers to create simple, stimulating learning environments at home using locally available materials. Caregivers are coached on how to engage young children in age-appropriate early learning activities that promote cognitive, language, and social development.
